Sarrià-Sant Gervasi District

Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is the fifth of Barcelona's ten city districts and is less well known by tourists.  However, it has a rich architectural beauty, some spectacular attractions and a peaceful high class aura thanks to the lovely buildings that so many residents have chosen as an ideal place in which to live.

How to reach the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi District

You can enter this neighborhood via the Diagonal, in the western part of Barcelona, just before the start of the Gracia neighborhood and this is where you will find the neighborhood of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. The area of the city in which it lies is quite hilly and quite large as it is also on the edge of the city limits.  The Metro doesn't travel this far but you can reach it on the L12 Line of the Railway which transports all those who are interested in visiting the characterful neighborhood of Sarrià, the beating heart of this peaceful district.  The  ES, S1 and S2 Lines come into Les Planes, a very verdant area near to the large Collserola park.

Explore the neighborhood

The district of Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is the perfect place in which to enjoy a peaceful and classy existence.  This is where you will find one of Barcelona's most spectacular attractions: Tibidabo is an amusement park that's situated at the same level as the vast church of the Sacred Heart, the Sagrat Cor, the panoramic route to which illuminates the night sky for residents to admire from afar.  Reaching Tibidabo by car is easy, or you can also get here by coming down on the Ferrocarril until the stop that's called the Funicular de Vallvidrera: after this, the route continues with the Number 111 bus.  This district is also home to one of the most beautiful and less well known works of the world famous architect, Antoni Gaudí, which is the Torre Bellesguard. For those who enjoy visiting museums and in particular, any kind of science museum, it is worth knowing that in the vicinity of the tower, you can visit the Cosmo Caixa Barcelona, the city's largest and most famous science museum. However, for those who prefer to stay reasonably close to the city but somewhat apart from the chaos of the city center, they will really enjoy the center of Sarrià which is both beautiful and elegant.  This neighborhood is easily reachable on public transport (such as the buses on the V Line) as well as the L12 on the Ferrocarrils which stops at the Reina Elisenda having traveled all the way from the Plaza Catalunya. Sarrià is very elegant but also suitable for families with children.  Strolling down the main avenue, the Carrer Mayor in Sarrià, you get the peaceful feel of a mountain village with its elegant buildings and the wealthy inhabitants adding a vital decorative flair to the surroundings.

Interesting information about Sarrià

One of the most surprising things about Sarrià is the realization as you enter the neighborhood, that the number of coffee shops and food stores increases, hand in hand with the variety of different languages that are spoken here.  You can enjoy a proper espresso, savor some international cuisine, such as Italian flat-breads and buy some of the famous home made panettones.  You can continue along the length of the Carrer Mayor until you arrive at a typical local street market and then on towards the majestic Sacred Heart College which looks like an Arabic castle.
